DRIP AUDIO PRESENTS: DOGS DO DREAM, SICK BOSS,

CD RELEASE CONCERT MAY 26, 2017

Drip Audio Recording Artists Dogs Do Dream, SICK BOSS Release Records VANCOUVER, B.C.

Two of Vancouver’s cutting edge ensembles, Drip Audio recording artists SICK BOSS and Dogs Do Dream celebrate the release of their CDs in concert at the China Cloud Friday, May 26. The initial material for the debut, self-titled album by SICK BOSS was recorded nearly two years ago in a whirlwind session at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studios . What followed was at least 50 hours of overdubs, creating a massive bank of composed and improvised material that was treated to a year of analogue and digital editing and experimentation. In its sinuous melodies and complex rhythms, SICK BOSS immediately calls to mind composer Cole Schmidt’s work in Juno-award winning outfit Pugs and Crows . Yet, the frenetic swirl of creative improvisation, rock, folk and modern jazz hints at the many voices propelling the material. The songbook grew from weekly residencies in a pair of Vancouver bars, where guest artists were invited to sit in with core members Schmidt, bassist James Meger and drummer Daniel Gaucher , who also contribute compositions to the project. The debut record features great playing by a sextet of key voices from the West Coast creative music scene, including star cellist Peggy Lee, and aching vocal spots by Debra-Jean Creelman and Molly Guldemond ( Mother Mother) . Dogs Do Dream is a suite of compositions and texts by composer/guitarist Ron Samworth , inspired by the dreamlife of dogs. Scientific research indicates that many animals, including Dogs, do dream. Taking this as a jumping off point, Samworth created a suite of imagined dog dreams – writing first person texts in the voice of the dog- to be presented within a series of musical compositions that employ both composed material and improvisation. Each segment is dedicated to a Vancouver location which inspired it, and sometimes even a specific dog friend. The record features narration by poet Barbara Adler and performances by a ‘who’s who’ of local and international creative music heavies, including JP Carter, Wayne Horvitz , Robin Holcomb and Skye Brooks.
